Christmas on the River Underway in Demopolis

Christmas on the River is underway and kicking into high gear in Demopolis with a full slate of activities scheduled.

The State Barbeque Cook-Off Championship is going on Friday night at George Franks Park.

Volunteers are putting the finishing touches on some of the big floats for the street parade Saturday morning.

There will also be a nautical parade and a fireworks show Saturday night.

“We want a lot of folks to come. We want a lot of people to spend money. We want a lot of people to enjoy themselves here in Demopolis,” said COTR volunteer Ben Sherrod.

Christmas on the River was started in 1972 and it has grown into the city’s biggest annual tourist event.
