Dreary Sunday and a Stormy Monday Ahead

Most of the heavy rain on Saturday was centered over north Mississippi and Alabama. Through Saturday evening, we will see additional showers, and rain will likely increase in coverage over the area. Sunday looks to be a rainy day. Multiple rounds of steady to moderate rainfall will move through the area thanks to a gulf low pumping moisture into the area. A few thunderstorms can’t be ruled out Sunday. The cloudcover and rain will keep us cool tomorrow, similarly to Saturday. Look for temperatures in the 50s throughout the day, highs in the upper 50s.

On Monday, the Gulf low tracks further east right along the Gulf coast. There may be a lull in the rainfall in the middle of the day Monday before Thunderstorms affect the area in the evening. Another low tracks from North Louisiana into Northwest Alabama with a trailing cold front late Monday. This setup will favor thunderstorms, some of which could be strong, tracking through the river region.

Thunderstorms will continue to affect the river region through the overnight hours of Monday into Tuesday. Most of the rain should clear the area by Tuesday afternoon, when the cold front moves through. Temperatures will actually be fairly mild behind the front, highs in the 60s both Tuesday and Wednesday. We have another shot for rain on Thursday afternoon through the evening ahead of another cold front.

This front will bring a significant cooldown to the river region. Widespread overnight lows in the 20s are expected Thursday night. Highs will only be in the low 40s Friday, before temps fall into the 20s again Friday night. Highs will remain in the 40s on Saturday as well. Sunday could be a bit more mild, with a chance for rain.h
