John Longshore Breaks Down Alabama Teams Going Bowling
For anyone following college football, it’s no surprise that Alabama is going into the post season as the number one seed, taking on the Washington Huskies in the first playoff game.
What was a bit of a surprise was Ohio State making it to the playoffs, after they didn’t even play in their conference championship.
They lost to Penn State, who did claim the BIG 10 title, during the regular season.
But sports analyst John Longshore says Penn State just didn’t have the resume to make it into the playoffs.
“They lost by 39 points to Michigan early in the season and that’s just something the committee cannot overlook. They also had another close loss as well. You just cannot have that big of a differential in a game,” said Longshore.
But Alabama isn’t the only team in our area looking at the post season. Auburn is going to the Sugar Bowl for the first time since 2005, taking on 10 and 2 Oklahoma.
“I call that a helmet game. Where people around the country are going to recognize hey, auburn and oklahoma. This is a game where people are going to sit down, they’ll watch, it’ll be at night. I think that’s a great way for Auburn to end their season against a red hot Oklahoma team,” said Longshore.
The Troy Trojans are also going bowling this year. After a season that saw them crack the AP top 25 for the first time in school history, they ended the season with a few losses, including the conference championship against Georgia Southern .
“They kind of limped home a little bit, they peaked and weren’t able to sustain it, but they are going bowling. And that’s certainly a big accomplishment for Neal Brown. It’s amazing what he’s done with this program in the short time he’s been there, taking over for Larry Blakeney,” said Longshore.
