The Salvation Army is preparing for the cold weather headed towards the River Region.  They expect a 10-15% increase in people staying at their shelter which is already near capacity.

Currently there are more than 70 men in their shelter, all of their family units are full and they expect their women’s shelter to fill up as well.  They are even extending their hours because of the cold temperatures.

“We allow people to come into the dining room when temperatures are below 50 for a high for the day,” explained Major Walter Strong, “if they want to come in here and stay warm they can come in.”

The Salvation Army is also in need of donations of linens, blankets and towels as they prepare for the cold weather.
