From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A school in Lowndes County hosts a town hall meeting to help try and stop students from engaging in underage drinking.
A panel of guest speakers told students at the Calhoun School about the dangers and consequences of underage drinking.
“We just want to get the message out so our kids will be safe and take care of themselves and not harm their future or anybody else’s future for that matter,” said Nicholas Townsend, The Calhoun School principal.
Speakers also encouraged the teens to make good choices and warned them to steer clear of alcohol.
“We want the students to know, not only is it illegal to drink alcohol, but its illegal to possess alcohol in the state of Alabama under the age of 21,” said ABC Government Relations Manager, Dean Argo.
The event was sponsored by the Council on Substance Abuse.
Many of the students who attended signed a pledge NOT to participate in underage drinking.
