Dilapidated Buildings Spark Controversy in Ft. Deposit
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A controversy is brewing in the town of Fort Deposit over what should be done with some dilapidated buildings downtown.
Some residents say the buildings are a dangerous eyesore — and they want the town to clean them up.
Other residents say the buildings are part of the town’s history — and they want to preserve as much of them as possible.
“Those six buildings that are in such bad repair are the oldest buildings in town,” said Frieda Cross.
“We have been desperately looking in every site possible to get grant money or assistance of some type to restore them.”
Town officials say property owners are being fined $10 dollars a day — every day their property is in disrepair.
