Community Foundation Awards $53,000 in Arts & Community Building Grants
On Monday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m., the Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) awarded $53,848 to nonprofits providing services in the areas of arts and community building in Elmore, Montgomery, and Macon counties. The presentation took place at the Capri Theatre.
CACF Community Trust Grants
Arts
- ClefWorks, Inc. — $5,000 to bring the “Catalyst Quartet,” a world class string quartet, to over $1,000 elementary and junior high school students in Montgomery public schools. The quartet will offer five outreach events, school concerts and coaching sessions.
- The Cloverdale Playhouse — $7,000 for students ages Kindergarten through 12 th grade to benefit from a year-round theater arts experience. Students will receive classes in movement, acting, stage make-up, puppetry and playwriting.
- Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts Association — $4,000 to allow the Artist-in- Residence program to purchase art supplies for 150 3rd and 4th grade students at Wares Ferry Elementary School. This program provides art instruction, field trips to the museum and both academic and psychological benefits.
- Tuskegee Repertory Theatre — $6,500 to support two productions; an original play and an original musical that both reflect the historical and cultural legacy of African Americans from historic Tuskegee, Alabama.
Community Building
- Bridge Builders Alabama — $6,200 to allow 150 students, from 17 public and private schools in Montgomery County, the opportunity to attend a leadership development, diversity education and community service summer conference.
- Common Ground Montgomery — $6,200 for 40 students from Carver and Lanier High Schools in grades 9 th – 12 th to visit local and regional colleges, participate in service projects and mission trips where they will volunteer at local nonprofits and learn about financial literacy and business management.
- Girls on the Run — $ 5,000 to cover the cost of delivering “Girls on the Run” to 100 girls in two Title 1 schools in Montgomery County. This program is a positive youth development program for 3 rd – 5 th grades that combines training for a 5K running event with healthy living education.
- New Beginnings Educational Center — $5,000 to allow 90 children, from Tulane and Patterson Courts (ages Pre-K through 12 th grade) the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, field trips, receive nightly suppers, tutoring, mentoring, and school supplies.
Elmore County Community Foundation (ECCF) Community Trust Grants
Arts & Community Building
- Bridge Builders Alabama — $2,500 to allow juniors and seniors from Elmore County high schools to attend a two-year leadership, diversity, and service-based training program. The program teaches students to lay aside individual, social, cultural, and economic differences and work together to become future leaders in our communities.
- Alabama Shakespeare Festival — $1,000 to subsidize tickets for 100 Elmore County students to attend SchoolFest – a comprehensive student-matinee program which exposes students to live theatrical performances, online study guides, behind–the-scenes videos and assists in meeting the Alabama Department of Education’s Common Core Standards for English Language Arts.
CACF Technical Assistance Grants
- Boys and Girls Clubs of the River Region — $2,000 to provide assistance with making updates to website making it more easily accessible, user friendly, and allow viewers the option to make donations.
- Easter Seals Camp ASCCA (Alabama Special Camp for Children and Adults) — $2,500 to help convert voice and data wireless systems; provide unlimited data usage for each participant, increase efficiency for camper/family communications and allow access to the internet for social media and fundraising.
- The Cloverdale Playhouse — $948 to purchase “Donor Tools” – an online subscription based software system that tracks donor data, ticket purchasers, student and volunteer information.
