Former ALEA Secretary Appointed Selma Police Chief

Former Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Spencer Collier is named the new chief of police in Selma.

Mayor Darrio Melton announced Collier as his pick to lead the police department at a press conference Monday afternoon at city hall.

Collier and Melton served together in the House of Representatives.

Collier is also a former Homeland Security Director for Alabama and a former state trooper.

He’ll take over as the new police chief, February 1st.

“When I was contacted about this I immediately knew I wanted this job,” said Collier.

“So, when it was offered, it really was no hesitation. This is where I wanted to be.”

Collier said his family will be moving to Selma.

The terms of his contract were not disclosed.
