Dallas Co. Man Charged in Rash of Truck Break-Ins
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A Dallas County man is arrested for a rash of 18-wheeler break-ins.
Sheriff’s office investigator Capt. Mike Granthum says 20 year old Derrell King is charged with thirteen counts of breaking-and-entering-of-a-vehicle-theft-of-cargo.
Granthum says the break-ins happened at the Purple Cow convenience store on Highway 80 in Selmont.
He says the drivers noticed the locks on their trailers had been cut and cargo had been stolen.
“These truckers they would come in, they would fuel up, take a nap, get their log book straight. Some of them were only there for three or four hours,” said Granthum.
“Some of them were broken into and no merchandise was taken but a lot of times they would take half, sometimes all the merchandise which took several hours to get some of this merchandise due to the high volume of it.
And there’s no way one person could have done this. We’re in the process of investigating it further and we hope to make more arrests.”
He said King is being held in the Dallas County Jail on bonds totaling $195,000 dollars.
