Cooler Weather for Weekend
COLD FRONT SINKING SOUTH: A cold front continues to slowly sink south through the state and has pushed through much of Alabama. It is a cloudy day, with a few scattered light showers across the area. Temperatures are noticeably cooler with most of us in the 50s in Central Alabama. The cold front continues its push to the south. We will continue to mention scattered showers, but these should begin to push south as well. For tonight, the sky will clear and it will be cold with many locations expected to be near freezing overnight.
THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will feature more sun than clouds, and it will be cool and dry. We start the day in the 30s, the high will be in the around 60°. Clouds return Sunday, ahead of an upper-level trough, and we are going to see a chance of some rain during the day. Any rain that falls should not amount to much. Highs Sunday will be in the mid 60s.
FOR NEXT WEEK: Still looks as though Monday will be generally dry with mainly cloudy conditions, with only a small risk of a shower. It will be warmer as temperatures climb back up into the 70s. On Tuesday, our next storm system approaches the state, and that is when we are going to see our next best chance of rain. An upper trough and associated surface front will cause rain and storms late Tuesday and into Wednesday, with rainfall totals under an inch. Thunderstorms are possible, but the main dynamics will be moving across the Midwest, so severe storms are not expected at this time. This system should exit late Wednesday. Thursday will be much colder with highs in the 50s. On Friday, GFS advertises another cold front diving south bringing another round of rain Friday, and then a shot of cold air, including freezing temperatures. The weekend of the 11-12th looks to be rather cold for Alabama and the Southeast
Have a fantastic Friday and wonderful weekend!
Ryan
