Severe Weather Awareness Week: Taking a Tour of a Storm Shelter

Storm shelters built inside your home can greatly increase your chances of surviving severe weather.
A tornado doesn’t slow down or stop for anyone. It mows down homes, flips buildings over, and can destroy lives. If a tornado comes your way you need to get to a place that’s safe, like a storm shelter.
“It’s not something that people think about, it’s kind of one of those after the fact type things,” says Home Depot Assistant Manager Stefanie Duncan. Home Depot sells the Survive a Storm Shelters that can be built into your home.
The shelters are made of ballistic rated steel and have been through extensive training to withstand damage. The largest model of the shelter can hold eight people comfortably, and keep every member of your family safe.
“Everything I’ve heard about these storm shelters, they haven’t lost a life yet,” Ducan adds. “So it’s a great deal and those that don’t know about it, I think it’s time to pick up and get one.”
