Jubilee Wraps Up with Slow Ride and Rally
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The Bridge Crossing Jubilee wrapped up today with a Slow Ride to Montgomery and a rally at the capitol.
A caravan of more than 30 vehicles made the 54 mile trip from Selma to Montgomery.
Rev. Dr. William Barber of North Carolina was the keynote speaker at a rally on the steps of the capitol.
He called for the full restoration of the Voting Rights Act.
“The situation is such until we’re losing the right to vote,” said Sen. Hank Sanders.
“This Slow Ride is to emphasize how important it is for us to mobilize and try to do everything we can to protect the right to vote.”
Barber also urged the people in the crowd to organize and hold voter registration campaigns in the cities where they live.
