A Couple Rounds Of Rain And Wintry Temps Ahead

Mostly clear skies continue this afternoon with temperatures warming into the upper 70s. Towards sunset and through the evening hours, a gradual increase of cloud cover will occur. Overnight, an approaching cold front from the north will trigger some showers and possibly some thunderstorms. Rain should be light, and occur after midnight tonight. Expect overnight lows to remain in the upper 50s. A narrow band of rain will track south ahead of the front through Friday morning, and exit south Alabama by the early afternoon. Skies clear back out behind the front, with temperatures rebounding into the mid 70s by the afternoon.

Another chance for rain rolls our way this weekend, however. We will start Saturday morning on a cool note, with lows expected to be in the low to mid 40s. Clouds will increase again in the afternoon, and by the evening some showers will enter west Alabama. The chance for rain will increase through the evening hours, and will continue through around noon Sunday. The rain, cloud cover, and cooler air filtering in Sunday will result in high temperatures only in the upper 50s.

Cooler weather is expected to continue through the start of next week as well, feeling a bit like a return to winter. Monday morning lows will be in the upper 30s. Skies clear back out on Monday with highs in the low 60s. Another front moves through on Tuesday, bringing a reinforcing cold shot to the area. Highs on Tuesday may only reach the mid-50s, even under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday night lows will drop to around freezing. The cool weather continues for next Wednesday and Thursday as well, with highs in the lower 60s under mostly sunny skies.

–P.S. The normal high for today is actually 67°… not 61°!–
