Sun Today, Rain Tomorrow, Colder Next Week

Gorgeous weather will continue today, most of today will be mostly sunny and very warm with a high up in the upp 70s. Clouds will be on the increase late in the day as our next system approaches the area.

FRIDAY: Moist air returns Friday, and we will have the risk of a few scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm Friday morning, with a high around 75 degrees with an upper-level feature that works rapidly across the Southeast. Severe weather is not expected and rain amounts will be light. This feature will exit rapidly Friday afternoon.

WEEKEND WEATHER: An area of low pressure will move out of the Southern Plains and into the Southeast and is actually expected to track right across North Alabama. It will be accompanied by a cold front and we will see widespread rain and storms to Alabama for the second half of Saturday and into Sunday. We could have to deal with some strong storms, but with the surface low moving right on top of us, it is just not the right set up for severe storm in Alabama. The front will swing through the state early Sunday, and then cooler, drier air returns to the state. The sky becomes mostly sunny, and the high will fall back into the upper 50s on the back of a cool north breeze.

INTO NEXT WEEK: Model madness and inconsistency abound as far as the threat of rain, but at least the first half of next week looks rather cool, with below-average temperatures. Highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s are showing up in model data, with lows back in the 30s. I don’t think we are done with the freezing temperatures just yet in Alabama.

Have a terrific Thursday!
