Annual Historic Selma Pilgrimage This Weekend

From the West Alabama Newsroom–

The 42nd Annual Historic Selma Pilgrimage is coming up this weekend in Selma.

The Historic Selma Pilgrimage showcases one of the largest historic districts in the southeast.

It features two days of guided tours through some of the city’s most historic homes and buildings.

“I love the mix this year, it’s a great mix,” said event chairman Greg Bjelke.

“Some of our homes go as early as 1825 up to just 15 years ago, so it’s a real good mix.”

The Arsenal Place Accelerator is on the tour this year.

Dane Shaw is the chairman of the board.

“Its a unique building. Its one of the only buildings in downtown Selma that’s like it,” said Shaw.

“When people come to see this building, they’re always interested in when it was built. It was built in the late 1800’s.”

Bjelke says the pilgrimage draws hundreds of people to city each year to experience the history, the architecture and the art.

“We have artists, open air artists that will come set up and paint around town as well. Twenty-five of them.”

The pilgrimage is held annually on the third weekend in March.
