Rain Later Today, Freezing Temperatures Ahead
Last night started off clear, but overnight, our flow has shifted back around from the south and moisture is returning, and we are seeing that with the clouds moving back into the area this morning. Before heading out the door this morning, grab the rain gear as a rather wet Monday is ahead.
RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS: Days like today will always bring to the mind that 1971 Carpenters hit. Little change in the overall thinking as a clipper system and cold front are moving down from the Midwest today. The clouds are already moving and and we should begin to see rain moving into our western counties later this morning, and spreading east through the day. We should see this threat of rain through the day, and into the evening and overnight hours, but it should be over by tomorrow morning. Rainfall totals looks to be on the order of one-quarter inch for much of Central Alabama. It will be a rather raw day with the clouds and rain, and a chill in the air as we are starting out in the upper 30s this morning, many of us will struggle to reach the mid 50s, and likely many of us will hold in the upper 40s this afternoon.
TUESDAY-THURSDAY: These three days will be dry, but unseasonably cold. The clipper system will pull south a reinforcing shot of cold air for midweek and our weather headlines in Alabama will be the freezing temperatures that are expected. Very cold mornings with significant freezes Wednesday and Thursday mornings are expected as lows will be down into the 20s across the state. Highs will be in the 50s through Thursday.
RAIN RETURNS: Friday starts off dry and we should see highs back in the 60s, but look for our next rainmaker to arrive late Friday with rain expected Friday night and into Saturday. Temperatures during this time frame will be too warm to warrant any winter weather mischief, as lows Saturday morning will only be in the 40s, and highs in the 60s by the afternoon. For Sunday, we will leave the chance of scattered showers in the forecast, and it will be warmer as 70s are expected to return.
Stay warm this week and have a great day!
Ryan
