Salvation Army Honors Volunteers with Special Banquet
The Salvation Army took time Thursday night to say a special “thank you” to all its volunteers that help throughout the year.
It was the annual volunteer appreciation dinner at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery.
This past year, the Salvation Army served over 4,000 people and had over 8,000 volunteers. Major Walter Strong says volunteers work in their thrift store, in the kitchen and shelters.
Many of the volunteers helped to ring bells for the Red Kettle campaign.
“They are the life blood. They do a lot more than just ring bells,” said Major Walter Strong.
“It just makes you proud especially when you know what the Salvation Army is going to take that money and do. I’ve been through their facility downtown, that is incredible and they are so dedicated. And I’m looking forward to next Christmas and getting out and ringing the bell again,” said volunteer Mac McLellan.
