MPS Board Receives nearly $1.4 million from State in Money Owed

The check is in the bank.
The State Department of Education paid back the Montgomery County school board nearly 1.4 million dollars it owed them Monday.
This is the money that was involved in a lawsuit over the controversial funds given to Pike Road Schools instead of Montgomery Public Schools.
The state has now paid that money back to Montgomery.
“As you know, just this check alone represents the payment of approximately 40 salaries for the teachers in this school system for one year,” said AEA associate director Theron Stokes.
Board members say it will be put to good use.
“We are so grateful for them taking up the ball and running with it and helping us to fight for what is right for the children of MPS. We are doing a lot of great things and, trust me, that money will be well utilized for our students,” said board member Arica Watkins-Smith.
