Selma Art Camp Set for Summer 2018
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Unfinished repairs at a city building in Selma that houses a popular art program caused concern about the fate of the program.
The ceramics program and the summer art camp were housed in the Dallas Academy building.
The building was damaged by fire last year and the repairs to the building are incomplete.
Art camp instructors went to the city council meeting Tuesday night for answers.
City officials expressed their committment to continuing the ceramics program and the art camp.
City officials say they’re working to find a place to house the programs temporarily.
“We won’t be able to do the ceramics because we won’t have access to the molds or the kilns. Usually by this time we’ve had all the ceramic projects ready to go but we will have other projects. We’ll just have to innovate and come up with some different things and that’s not a problem cause we’re used to doing that,” said Stoudenmire.
The Art Camp program has been going on every summer for more than thirty years.
