Dry Today, Wet Pattern Ahead

Today, clouds will begin increasing area wide and high temperatures will climb into the mid and upper 60s. The day itself looks dry, but rain will start edging into Alabama late tonight.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: These two days will feature a soaking rain for Alabama. There will be some thunder mixed in at times but severe weather is not expected. However, we note the SPC has highlighted western portions of Alabama in a “marginal risk” on Thursday, so we will watch things carefully. Heavy rain will be a good bet before a cold front will push the rain out of the area during the day on Friday. Rainfall amounts should average 2-4 inches across Central Alabama. Of course we will have to watching things carefully as we could see some flooding issues if the rain comes down too fast.

WEEKEND WEATHER: More rain is unfortunately in the forecast for the final weekend of 2018. A southwesterly flow across the Southeast will be sending waves of showers over the area on both Saturday and Sunday. At this point, showers look to be scattered in nature but rainfall totals by the end of the weekend should around the one inch range. Highs both days will be in the mid-60s.

MUSIC CITY BOWL: For Auburn fans heading to Nashville for their bowl game with Purdue: rain “should” end during the morning, but there are signs it could linger into the actual game itself. Temperatures from kickoff until the fourth quarter should hover in the upper 50s. Like here, Thursday will be wet.

ORANGE BOWL: Alabama and Oklahoma fans in Miami for the College Football Playoff game in the Orange Bowl Saturday evening will have some fine tropical winter weather. Highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s to near 70 and only a few tropical showers. Rain chances during the game are only about 20% with temperatures falling from 76F to 72F by the end of the game.

Have a great day!
Ryan
