Mostly Sunny Wednesday; Showers and Storms Thursday
It was another cool and refreshing start to the day. Morning low temperatures fell into the 50s, though Alexander City and Troy over-achieved. Those spots fell to 49° this morning. Temperatures are much warmer now and should reach or exceed the 80° mark this afternoon under a mostly sunny sky. Temperatures fall into the mid 70s by 7PM, and then the upper 60s by 11PM. There’s a small chance for rain after midnight tonight as some upper level disturbances swing south from the Tennessee valley. We may also start Tuesday morning with a few more clouds in the sky. Temperatures won’t fall as much tonight, with Thursday morning lows in the low 60s.
Additional showers and storms develop Thursday afternoon. The coverage of these showers and storms remains isolated to scattered, so it won’t be a widespread soaking of rain. Additional upper level disturbances could roll through the area Thursday night, leading to more shower and thunderstorm activity. Thursday looks warmer with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Thursday night lows only fall into the mid 60s. Friday should be a dry day thanks to an area of surface high pressure sliding over Alabama. That suppresses afternoon shower and thunderstorm development. The summer-like heat is back on Friday, with highs near 90° under a mostly sunny sky.
Our weekend weather still looks much improved vs. last weekend. Saturday looks completely dry and mostly sunny, with highs near 90°. There’s still a small chance for showers on Sunday, though the Euro models keeps that rain to our west through the weekend. There’s better agreement for some rain on Monday, but that chance still looks low with isolated to scattered showers. Next Tuesday looks dry at this time, but we could see isolated showers next Wednesday. The summer-like heat continues early next week, with highs near 90° next Monday through Wednesday.
