U.S. Air Force Cancels Maxwell Air Force Base Air Show
The “Beyond the Horizon Air and Space Show” scheduled for next month at Maxwell Air Force Base has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The U.S. Air Force has suspended public outreach activities and support to community events through May 15.
Because of the lead time required to reserve and schedule military aerial demonstration teams, such as the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, it appears that the earliest Maxwell can host another airshow is in 2022.
“Many people both on base and in the community have been working extremely hard planning our air show,” said Col. Patrick Carley, 42nd Air Base Wing commander. “We recognize and appreciate their efforts, but concern for the medical safety of military and civilian communities across the country drove the decision by the Air Force to suspend airshows and its community engagement activities.”
The suspension includes, but is not limited to, on-base and civilian-sponsored airshows, Air Force band performances and community engagements and meetings that involve large gatherings.
Maxwell’s air and space show was scheduled for April 18-19, 2020.
