City of Montgomery Reaches Settlement with Family of Greg Gunn

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed says the city has reached a confidential settlement with the family of Greg Gunn. Gunn was fatally shot by former MPD officer, Aaron Cody Smith in 2016.

The settlement does not include an admission of liability from anyone involved in the case.

No settlement can erase this pain stemming from an unfortunate incident such as this,” Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed said. “This settlement is not going to bring Mr. Gunn back. It’s not going to change the past. As an administration, as a city and as a community, we will learn from the mistakes that were made and work to correct them. We will continue our efforts to build more trust in the community with a priority towards equality and equity.”

Smith was convicted of manslaughter in November for the fatal shooting. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
