Escaped Inmate Recaptured After Being on the Run Since October 2019

The United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force has officially notified CrimeStoppers of the capture of fugitive Vernell Sanders who was wanted for Escape from a State Correctional Facility in Elmore. Sanders had been eluding authorities since October of 2019. He is no longer wanted by law enforcement.

A member of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force tells CrimeStoppers that Vernell Sanders was taken into custody by the Birmingham Police Department on June 10th. Patrol Units stopped Sanders while investigating a call of a suspicious suspect.

Sanders escaped from the Red Eagle Correctional Work Facility where he was serving a sentence for Robbery, Assault, and Receiving Stolen Property.
