Former Lee County District Attorney Indicted for Perjury

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A county prosecutor facing charges of using his office for personal gain has been indicted on an additional charge of lying to the Alabama Ethics Commission.

Court records filed Thursday show suspended Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes was indicted on a perjury charge alleging he lied during sworn testimony to the panel last April.

Hughes was charged in November with ethics violations, conspiracy to commit theft, and perjury. The defense says the 46-year-old Hughes maintains his innocence.

Hughes referred a possible violation to the Ethics Commission last year before the agency referred the matter to prosecutors.
