Tallassee High School unveils all-new building after years of work
Gov. Kay Ivey helped Tallassee city and school leaders cut the ribbon to a brand-new Tallassee High School building on Wednesday.
The school is nearly 70,000 square feet, about 20,000 square feet larger than the old school, which was torn down. During construction, students and teachers have held classes in trailers. That makes the move into the new school even better for them.
As you’d expect, the school features all new furnishings and state-of-the-art equipment. But it also has a tornado shelter that’s able to hold 800 people.
Some students say they were sad to see the old school torn down after being a centerpiece of Tallassee since it was built in 1929. But a walk through the new building was breathtaking.
The construction was met with delays because of the pandemic. But school officials say the wait was well worth it.
