Longtime Montgomery Advertiser reporter and columnist Alvin Benn dies at 83

Longtime Montgomery Advertiser reporter and columnist Alvin Benn has died.

The Advertiser reports that Benn died Wednesday at the age of 83.

He had a career that lasted nearly 54 years.. including 38 at the Advertiser.

Benn covered everything from civil rights struggles to everyday news.. and was well known for his column “Alvin Benn’s Alabama.”

He was a fixture in Selma where he lived.

All of us extend our sympathies to his family and to those who worked with him at the Advertiser over the decades.
