The owners of Mr. Gus’ Ristorante on Atlanta Highway have announced they are closing its doors.

The restaurant featured Italian and Greek food and was loved for years. It had been owned by Dimitri Polizos, whose family had been in the restaurant business for decades.

Polizos was well-known for his years on the Montgomery County Commission and later in the Alabama House of Representatives. He took the time to walk through the restaurant and cheerfully greet customers as they dined.

Polizos passed away in 2019.

The current owners had struggled with the pandemic and the economy. They say food and labor costs forced them to make the decision to close.
