Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign kicks off in the River Region
The Salvation Army of Montgomery officially kicked off their Red Kettle Campaign today at the Shoppes at Eastchase. Red Kettles will now grace the entrances of local stores and businesses in the River Region throughout the holiday season. Col. Ray Scott (Ret.) is the Chairman of the Board of the Salvation Army, and he says, “The bell is the sound of health, hope, and comfort for the citizens of Montgomery.”
For the past 125 years. the Salvation Army has been providing food, clothing and shelter to those in need in the Montgomery area. This year the need is even greater. Montgomery County Commissioner Isaiah Sankey says these are challenging times for many working families and they are struggling to make ends meet. The donations raised through the Red Kettle Campaign help provide shelter for local homeless individuals and families through the year, and the Salvation Army’s food pantry has provided 495 boxes for food to hungry families in 2023.
Since January, the organization has spent $152,000 providing emergency shelter for homeless families at local hotels, and 68 families have been placed in permanent housing. Last year, The Salvation Army fulfilled the Christmas wishes of 1,053 children helping make it a wonderful holiday for more than 427 families.
