Deadly crash near Troy kills one person and injures another

A single-vehicle crash early this morning in Pike County has claimed the life of a Brantley woman. The crash occurred around 2:22am on Alabama 87, approximately two miles south of Troy. 41 year old Mary Burgans was fatally injured when the 2008 Honda Accord she was driving left the roadway, struck a fence and then a concrete mailbox. Burgans was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and died at the scene. A passenger in the Accord – 46 year old Robert Duncan of Brantley – was injured and transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.
