A new state of the art Apple Computer Lab is coming to students in the Perry County School School District.

School officials say the new high-tech computer lab — will expose students in the district — to 21 century — cutting edge technology.

The school district has begun the process of constructing a new Apple Communications Lab at RC Hatch School in Uniontown.

Wal Perrycocomputers Pkg“We talk a lot about we are building children preparing them for the future. Well, this is the future. We know that technology is the gateway,” said Superintendent Dr. Marcia Smiley.

“The ceilings will be redone, the walls, the flooring. Everything will be renovated to create an atmosphere that is state of the art, in terms of technology.”

“It’s going to be something like you’ve never seen before,” said Hatch Principal Boris Hurst.

“It will be the first of it’s kind in the Black Belt.”

School officials say every student in the district will be exposed to the technology — and have the opportunity to utilize the lab.

“The students will have activities in this room that are self paced, things that they want to continue studying, whether it be coding or anything else of their interest,” said Technology Coordinator Allison Taylor.

“And all of the equipment is there in terms of lighting. They will have the ability to make productions. All of those things will be imbedded in this particular classroom,” said Smiley.

Smiley says the plan is to have the lab up and running — in January.

The Perry County School District has two Pre-K through 12th grade schools — and serves about 850 students.
