Alexander City woman charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury in Auburn
Auburn police say they’ve charged an Alexander City woman with leaving the scene of an accident with injury.
Police say they’ve arrested 40-year-old Thomasina LaShun Smith.
On Saturday, police were called to North College Street at Farmville Road where a woman was lying unresponsive on the side of the road. They believe she was hit while riding her bicycle.
The woman is in critical condition at a hospital.
Police say evidence and witness statements led to Smith being identified as the driver who hit the woman and left the scene.
Smith was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail and is being held on a $10,000 bond.
Police want to talk to anyone who witnessed the accident or who has other information. Call the Auburn Police Department’s tip line at (334) 246-1391 or submit a tip using the Auburn Public Safety App. You may remain anonymous.
Police remind drivers to allow for ample space when approaching and passing a cyclist. Alabama law requires a minimum of three feet of clearance between a vehicle and the bicycle the driver is passing.
