ACTION 8 UPDATE: Arrest made in murder of Selma Police Department employee
ACTION 8 UPDATE: An arrest has been made in the murder of a Selma Police Department evidence technician.
Twenty-two year Cordel Dewayne Tyus of Selma went before Circuit Judge Collins Pettaway, Jr., this morning in Selma.
Pettaway appointed Tyus an attorney and set the date for a preliminary hearing.
Tyus is charged with capital murder in the shooting death of 30-year-old Jamyron Hope of Selma.
“What makes this capital is that it was a homicide committed during the course of a robbery,” District Attorney Robert Turner, Jr., told Action 8 News.
Hope was found on the ground unresponsive on the 3400 block of Water Avenue some time around midnight Tuesday morning.
Turner says Hope made the 911 call to police himself.
“He reported what was happening on the scene. The suspect was detained on the scene. He was afforded medical treatment himself and he was checked out. And he’s currently still in custody. And right now he’s in custody without a bond.”
The preliminary hearing has been set for January 22.
The State Bureau of Investigation is leading the homicide investigation. If you have information, call (205) 553-5531.
