SAVING SELMA: Partnership brings new homes, repairs to Selma after tornado
ACTION 8 NEWS SAVING SELMA: Some new homes are coming to the Selma area, thanks to the efforts of a new disaster recovery partnership.
The Selma Long Term Recovery Group has teamed up with Mennonite Disaster Services and Disaster Aid Ohio to repair and rebuild homes. About one-third of Selma was destroyed when the tornado hit on January 12.
Today, crews poured the foundation for the first of five homes that are being rebuilt from the ground up. They are also making repairs to about 30 other homes.
Volunteers are providing construction labor for the projects. Building materials are funded by local and national donations.
The project is part of the ongoing effort to help people who are unable to recover from the tornado on their own.
“We plan on having the five houses done by probably the end of March. And then, if funding comes along for more, we’ll try to do more,” construction coordinator Bud Mitchell told Action 8 News.
