Tuskegee police officer arrested
A Tuskegee police officer has been arrested.
According to a statement from Police Chief Jennifer Jordan, officer Tommy Cheatham was arrested in Montgomery County today in reference to several search warrants that were executed by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
He has been charged in Montgomery County with having an altered firearm and in Macon County with theft of property in the first degree, police say.
Cheatham has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigation, according to Jordan’s statement. The statement says the case has been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation to ensure that there is a fair and impartial investigation.
Jordan says updates will be provided as more information is learned.
