Montgomery firefighter returns to work seven months after he was injured in a fatal fire

A Montgomery firefighter – who spent approximately seven months recovering from injuries he suffered battling a house fire on May 14 that took the lives of two people – returned to work on Sunday.  Montgomery Fire/Rescue’s Adarius Wesley was excited to walk back into Fire Station 12 on Norman Bridge Road. He’s been recovering with the support of his family and friends during the past seven months, and his fellow firefighters were very happy to welcome him back to his second home at Fire Station 12.

Mayor Steven Reed commended the three firefighters who were injured for courageously going into the flames to rescue the two victims who were trapped in the burning house on Gilmer Avenue that night. Montgomery Fire/ Rescue Chief Jordan praised Wesley’s sheer determination and grit throughout his recovery process.

“I have some mixed emotions. You know I’m excited, but I’m also nervous at the same time with it being a physical job and mental job. I’ve been off for like 6 or 7 months, so you know I’m excited to get back, but then again it’s a challenge to get back into the motion of things. I missed those guys man that’s the best part about the job. Just the comradery that you get and the bonds that you build. So yeah, that’s the most exciting part that I’m looking forward to, ” says Wesley.  Montgomery Fire/Rescue is also eagerly awaiting the return of the two other firefighters injured that night – Captain Donald Crenshaw and Firefighter Deandre Hartman.
