Church youth group hands out Christmas gifts to seniors in Selma
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The youth group from a Selma church spreads a little Christmas cheer at a Selma retirement home — by handing out gift bags to all of the residents.
The youth at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in downtown Selma — adopted the residents of the Epworth House retirement home in Selma — for Christmas.
“Christmas is a good time to give,” said Kalee Peak.
“It warms my heart for us that are a little more blessed, to pass blessings on to others that are more in need.”
Each of the 48 residents at Epworth House provided a wish list. And the youth at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church raised the money to buy the gifts. Then packed them up and delivered them to residents.
What they doing is good. They could have been doing something else but they’re looking out for the seniors. That’s a blessing,” said Epworth resident Gloria Varner.
“They bought me what I said, a portable radio, house shoes and bath towels. So, I appreciate them for that,” said Epworth resident Roosevelt Jones.
“This is my favorite time of year to do this, said Emily Grace Mims.
“Just seeing the smile on people’s faces whenever they get the presents is always good. It makes me happy.”
Each Christmas gift bag contained about $50 dollars worth of the gift items — residents requested on their wish list.
