8 ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT: Alabama Power is warning of scams as it says activity has increased during this holiday season.
The company says scammers are calling residential and business customers and using the customer’s account information to trick customers into providing fraudulent payments. The caller is demanding immediate payment via money card and warning service will be disconnected if payment is not received.
In an online scam, Alabama Power says scammers are creating fraudulent utility websites, posing as official company sites, with fake customer service numbers. After landing on these fraudulent sites, customers who wish to pay their bill over the phone are calling the associated fraudulent 800 numbers.
If you detect suspicious activity or wish to pay your bill, contact Alabama Power at (800) 245-2244 for residential, and (888) 430-5787 for business customers.
Alabama Power says if you receive any unfamiliar or suspicious communication please verify your account status online or call the numbers above to verify that the company is indeed contacting you.
