Investigation underway after inmate dies at Montgomery County jail

An investigation is underway after an inmate died Thursday night at the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Officials say around 10:00 p.m., the on-duty medical staff responded to the booking area concerning an inmate experiencing a serious medical condition. Medics from Montgomery Fire & Rescue were also on hand to assist.

Efforts to resuscitate the unidentified inmate were unsuccessful.

The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation.
