The new year begins cold with sunshine, but some rain this week
New Year’s Eve was rather pleasant across central and south Alabama. Morning lows were frigid, in the mid to upper 20s across our area. However, afternoon temperatures recovered into the low and mid 60s. The sky was mostly sunny during the day. New Year’s Eve night remains rain-free, though some clouds pass over our area.
That may benefit us, keeping temperatures slightly warmer than they otherwise might be. Temperatures remain near 40° through midnight. Sunday nights lows fall into the mid to upper 30s. New Year’s Day remains cool, with highs in the 50s. It now looks like Monday remains rain-free with a mostly sunny sky. Monday night looks mainly clear and cold, with lows in the low 30s.
Tuesday looks rain-free and cool with sunshine. However, rain returns Wednesday as a low pressure system quickly sweeps east along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Thursday and Friday look mostly sunny and cool in the wake of that system, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. Another round of rain appears possible next weekend, and this could be a more substantial soaking for Alabama.
