Coffee County man, bother sentenced to life in federal prison in murder-for-hire case
A federal judge in Montgomery has sentenced two men to life in prison in a murder-for-hire plot that led to the death of an Enterprise woman.
There is no parole in the federal prison system.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Alabama, a jury found that 50-year-old Jason Starr of Coffee Springs was upset about the amount of money his ex-wife had been awarded after their divorce and hired his brother, 54-year-old Darin Starr of Lakehills, Texas, to kill her.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says in late 2017, Darin Starr shot and killed his brother’s ex-wife in her driveway as she was leaving for work. On September 20, 2023, a federal jury convicted them. In addition to the life sentence, the judge ordered Jason Starr to pay a fine of $25,000.
