Two correctional officers at the Elmore Correctional Facility have been arrested.

The Alabama Department of Corrections has announced that Eli Charlie DeRamus and Bunion Thomas were arrested Tuesday and charged with using their position for personal gain.

They were taken to the Elmore County Jail.

Both officers have resigned their positions, the ADOC says. It adds that further charges may be pending.

“The ADOC continues to combat illegal contraband being introduced to the state’s correctional facilities, whether it is introduced from the inside or the outside. There is no place for corrupt personnel at ADOC,” ADOC Commissioner John Q. Hamm said in a statement.
