First anniversary of tornado that killed seven people in Autauga County

Friday marks one year since a tornado killed seven people in two locations north of Prattville.

The EF-3 tornado hit with winds up to 150 miles per hour on January 12, 2023.

Five people were killed along Sandy Ridge Road at three homes, and two others were killed at two homes along County Road 140.

Hundreds of homes in Old Kingston, Posey’s Crossroads, White City and Marbury were damaged or destroyed.

The tornado was on the ground for 76 miles, and was nearly a mile wide at one point.

After touching down in Autauga County, it went through Elmore, Coosa and Tallapoosa counties before lifting in Chambers County.

It lasted one hour and 20 minutes.
