Severe storms possible Friday; Cool with sunshine this weekend

Strong to severe storms remain possible Friday. Early Friday morning was relatively quiet, but storms continue across mainly east Alabama during the afternoon. The severe weather window closes at 4PM in east Alabama. All modes of severe weather remain possible- damaging straight-line wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes. The storms prediction center places a slight (level 2/5) severe risk across all of our area.

Outside of storms, wind gusts could be as high as 50 mph. A wind advisory remains in effect across our area until Friday evening. A cold front pushes through our area Friday evening, with colder air moving in Friday night. Saturday morning lows fall into the low 30s. Despite sunshine, temperatures only warm into the low 50s Saturday afternoon. Saturday night lows fall to near freezing (32°). Sunday looks cool with sunshine, highs in the 50s, and lows near freezing.

Rain appears possible MLK day. Long-range models still bounce back and forth on rain timing and the potential for frozen precipitation. As of Friday morning, the chance for winter weather looks very low for our area. However, temperatures turn very cold next Tuesday. High temperatures only warm into the 40s. Tuesday night lows could fall into the teens, but mid 20s at least. Wednesday and Wednesday night could be very cold too.
