Bear Exploration Center earns distinction as Certified National Magnet School

Bear Exploration Center in Montgomery has earned a coveted national distinction. On Friday, the school held an assembly to surprise the teachers who worked so hard to achieve this honor. The elementary school has been recognized as a Certified National Magnet School, and they are the only school in the Capitol City to hold this designation.

It means they have the essential elements of a high-quality magnet program. The 35 teachers – along with other faculty at the school – worked tirelessly for more than 10 months to submit the extensive paperwork. This is the second time they have earned this national award, and Principal Nina Williams says this time it was truly a team effort.

“We are so excited! We have been a magnet certified school before, but this year it was different because compared to a few people working on the application process, it was our entire school and every faculty member. We divided into teams, and we completed this process together. We shared the challenges, so it is important that we shared the success,” Dr. Williams said.  Bear Exploration Center has 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
