Cold Sunday night; Turning even colder this week

It was a sunny and cool winter weekend across central and south Alabama. Sunday morning was cold, with lows in the 20s to low 30s. Sunday afternoon was milder with abundant sunshine. High temperatures were near 60° in some locations, including Montgomery. Sunday night looks partly cloudy and cold again, lows fall to near freezing.

A shot of even colder air arrives this week. Much of Monday looks mainly dry in our area, but the mid-south and Tennessee valley to our north and northwest may have a significant winter storm underway. For us, the sky remains partly to mostly cloudy with high temperatures in the 50s and possibly low 60s.

Some precipitation arrives in west Alabama Monday evening.It falls mainly in the form of rain, with temperatures above freezing Monday evening. Rain coverage looks to be rather spotty upon arrival. Rain coverage remains spotty Monday night, as temperatures approach freezing across our western communities.

Partially frozen precipitation could fall in those areas, but with not much actually falling from the sky. By the time temperatures fall to near or below freezing across most of our area Tuesday morning, little if any precipitation remains in our area. Overall, winter weather impacts, if any, look very minimal.

Minor ice accumulations, mainly on elevated surfaces, appear possible mainly west of I-65. However, temperatures turn very cold Tuesday through Wednesday. Afternoon temperatures may remain in the 30s Tuesday. Tuesday night lows fall into the teens to low 20s. Wind chill values could be below 10° Wednesday morning.

Temperatures warm into the low to mid 40s with sunshine Wednesday. Thursday and Friday look milder, with highs in the low 50s. Some rain appears possible Thursday through Friday, all rain this time. The weekend looks rain-free with sunshine. Temperatures remain cool, with highs near 50° and lows near 30°.
