Popular youth coach killed in tragic pedestrian accident in Macon County
A popular youth sports advocate and well known coach in Macon County lost his life in a tragic traffic accident Saturday night. The two-vehicle crash involved a pedestrian and it happened on Macon County 56 near Cleghorn Drive, approximately one mile north of Franklin in Macon County. Around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 52 year old Sedrick D. Brooks from Tallassee was standing in the roadway and was fatally injured when he was struck by a 2020 Kia Optima driven by Henry L. Stewart, 62, of Notasulga. After the initial impact, the Kia then struck the 1993 Allegro Bay Recreational Vehicle (RV), which was sitting stationary in the roadway at the time of the collision. Brooks died at the scene. According to Macon County EMA Director Frank Lee, Coach Sedrick ” BRUNO ” Brooks was a fixture at all Booker T. Washington High School athletic events, and he dedicated his life to supporting area youth in developing sports programs. According to Lee, More than 100 local residents came together near Macon County Road 56 to mourn Brooks’ untimely death.
Retha A. Riley, 57, of Notasulga, and Aurthur L. Holley, 55, also of Notasulga, were both passengers in the Kia and were injured. They were transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
