Two major construction projects are underway in Selma. The Selma Interpretive Center — and Bloch Park — are both getting major makeovers.

Wal Twoprojects0115 Pkg1 Bloch Park suffered significant damage last year — during the January 12th tornado. City leaders say the goal is to have the project complete before the start of the high school baseball season in March.

“So, we’ve got a couple of months, said Parks and Rec Director Denisha Hendricks.

“We prioritized various smaller projects within this project to make sure that all of the students here in the Selma-Dallas County area can utilize this beautiful facility.”

The project includes replacing the dugouts — some fencing — batting cages — along with safety netting — and the roofing over the stands.

Wal Twoprojects0115 PkgThe Bloch Park project has a price tag — of just under $400,000 dollars.

Additionally, the Selma Interpretive Center is going through a $10 million dollar renovation and expansion. The book store has been closed down. And all of the exhibits at the center have been dismantled and cleared out during the project.

“The Interpretive Center will go from being housed in that one building to all four buildings including a garden, exterior restrooms, exterior meeting spaces, interior meeting spaces, a theater,” said Planning & Development Director Danielle Wooten.

So, the major construction is getting ready to move forward at this point.
