Distinguished Young Women join Kiwanis Club for Lunch
The contestants from the Distinguished Young Women program took a break from their rehearsals to have lunch with the Kiwanis Club in downtown Montgomery.
The contestants and Kiwanis Club members chatted about the upcoming preliminaries and what colleges the young women will be attending after graduation. The young women also displayed some other talents in front of the members to show why they are in the D.Y.W. program.
This week the contestants are preparing themselves for the preliminaries and finals that will be taking place this weekend.
The Distinguished Young Women of Alabama 2023 recipient, Carrington Hodge, was there to tell this year’s contestants about how the program has changed her life for the better.
“I heard so many girls tell me that this week at state was going to be life changing and you would walk away with so many new experiences that would last you for a lifetime,” stated Hodge. “I just didn’t know how it could be any different than other programs that I’d been through. But now a year later, and looking back at all of the opportunities that I’ve been given after leaving this program with scholarships, network connections, friendships, advice, potentially a career change; It’s been life altering and I know that every single one of you young ladies will walk away with something special from this program.”
The Distinguished Young Women preliminaries will be Friday night and Saturday afternoon at Frazer Church. The finals will be taking place Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
