More Arctic Air Coming Our Way!

Arctic air continues to hover over us but it will retreat briefly before another surge blast the deep south over the weekend. It will put us right back in the deep freeze but it won’t last long. A significant January thaw is coming our way later next week. .

In the meantime, temperatures will fall into the upper teens and lower 20s overnight  into Thursday morning.  Prolonged sub-freezing temps may cause pipes to burst.  We don’t expect much wind and that should keep wind chills from being a problem.  You’re still gong to want to limit exposure to this type cold.  Dressing in layers will help combat the frigid air if you have to go outside.

Another frontal system will be moving into the area Thursday afternoon.  Temps do recover a bit and high temps manage upper 40s to lower 50s by the late afternoon.  Light precipitation will move across the area and it looks like temps will be well above freezing and its a rain event this time.  The second round of Arctic air will follow and we’re back in the deep freeze over the upcoming weekend.  Morning lows are in the upper teens to lower 20s and daytime highs upper 30s to lower 40s.

There’s a weather pattern change coming our way early next week.  High pressure will set up to our east and we pick up a southeasterly winds flow.  This wind direction will cut off the cold air and allow us to warm up a bit.  We’re expecting mid 60s by Tuesday and lower 70s later in the week.  Along with the warm up will come moisture and there’s a chance for showers heading into the middle of next week. The January thaw is coming and it’s going to be significant! We just have to hang in there for a few more days.
